3. Mechanisms for Early Intervention

Early intervention is fundamental in ensuring that appropriate services are offered to those affected by domestic abuse.

Recognising the signs and instigating measures promptly helps prevent incidents from escalating, and can prove effective for organisations.

Across Wales, there are a range of multi-agency intervention mechanisms, which have an important role in facilitating early intervention. These include Gwent's Domestic Abuse Conference Call, (DACC), and the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub, (MASH), in Rhondda Cynon Taff.

As social landlords it is important we participate in any local arrangements for early intervention. Social landlords may need to actively build relationships with other agencies, raising awareness of how social landlords can assist, and the potential for appropriate information sharing.

Other internal processes also have an important function in early intervention, to ensure that:

  • staff are appropriately trained
  • there are effective systems for collecting data
  • practical policies and procedure are implemented
